Current Art Work • In Process 2010-2011
In the past decade the imagery in my work has included Bunnies and Buddhas;
now I have left these themes behind to concentrate on drawing Body Bags and veiled
women. Looking at newspaper images from the Middle East, combined with travel to the Caucuses and to Turkey, engages my ever present concern to understand conflict in all its forms. Drawing the body bags is bringing me closer to the sacred.
“Let’s be the same wound if we must bleed.
Let’s fight side by side, even if the enemy
Is ourselves. I am yours, you are mine.”
––Tommy Olofsson
“I’m not interested in
who suffered the most.
I’m interested in
People getting over it.”
––Naomi Shihab Nye
